New Turkish military HQ will rival Pentagon – defence minister
A project to build a new military headquarters is underway in Ankara that will rival the U.S. Department of Defense’s famous Pentagon, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said on Tuesday.
“There’s the Star and Crescent (Ayyıldız) Project. We’ve made a building that will rival the Pentagon,” news site Defence and Technology quoted Akar as saying.
“We’ve received directives from the president (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) and he has told us to continue. We will meet the project team in the coming days and hopefully bring it forward,” he said.
Turkey’s general staff headquarters are currently located in Ankara’s Çankaya district, the seat of many government buildings including parliament.
