Turkish university to open three faculties in Syria

Turkey’s Gaziantep University in the southeastern border province of Gaziantep will open departments in three northern Syrian towns, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette on Friday.

The university will open a management faculty in al-Bab, an Islamic sciences faculty in Azaz and an educations faculty in Afrin, towns seized during Turkey’s two military operations in northern Syria and now controlled by Turkish-backed rebels.

Gaziantep University opened a vocational education school in Jarablus in 2018. The university later applied to Turkey’s Council of Higher Education for permission to open new departments in Syria, citing intensive demand in the region.
